About us

The Paint Reuse Network is a support network to encourage paint reuse in Ireland.

The Paint Reuse Network is a membership based organisation; a collective of Irish groups and organisations involved in paint reuse with a common vision to reduce paint waste in Ireland. The network encourages and supports paint reuse and redistribution for the benefit of local communities and the planet.

We do this through creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, providing best practice guidance and facilitating conversations between network members. We advocate for change in the way that households and commercial premises manage unused paint. We increase public awareness of the potential for paint to be given a second life and redistributed for use.

The Paint Reuse Network is led by The Rediscovery Centre, with the support of Ireland’s Regional Waste Management Planning Offices.

Our Members

What is our goal?

We want to help solve the issue of large volumes of paint being unnecessarily wasted

We want to ensure that paint use is maximised and reused where discarded,

We want to support community development and the transition to a circular economy.

How do we do it?

We stop quality paint being exported and disposed of by promoting and enabling its reuse in communities all over Ireland.

We connect, enable and empower a national paint reuse ecosystem across Irish communities through our national network.

We support the transition to a circular economy by making reused paint cost effective and accessible while creating jobs.

We drive awareness with consumers, facilitating both donations of paint and purchase of paint for reuse

Our Launch

The Paint Reuse Network was launched in winter 2021 to normalise paint reuse, empower paint reuse organisations and create sustainable jobs. Take a look back at some highlights from our launch event, featuring insights from attendees discussing the importance of paint reuse, and exploring what our members are doing to support the transition to a circular economy.

FAQs

What does the Paint Reuse Network do?

The Paint Reuse Network is a collective of Paint Reuse groups who are located around Ireland with a common mission to reuse discarded and unused paint otherwise destined for incineration.

The network encourages and facilitates the reuse and redistribution of second life paint within their communities. Paint Reuse Network members collect paint from recycling centres and recycle it to create new colours.

The network also aims to share knowledge, best practice and  provide a coherent and cohesive approach to the process of collecting and redistributing paint.

How can initiatives get involved with the Paint Reuse Network?

If you are interested in setting up or have already set up a paint reuse initiative in your community you are welcome to link in with us for a discussion and to see if it may make sense for you to become a full member of the Paint Reuse Network.

What are the benefits of joining the Paint Reuse Network?

All members of the national paint reuse network will receive support, which will include but not be limited to ;

  • Networking

  • Training

  • Technical guidance

  • Policy and legislative support

  • Business development

  • Funding opportunities & advice

  • Communications

How is paint created?

Our members deal only with water based non-hazardous emulsion paints and mix multiple colours together to achieve the desired shade of colour. No additional ingredients, apart from colour pigments, are added to the process.

Where can I find out about what paint a member might have in stock?

Each of the Paint Reuse Networks members operate their own website which aims to share this information where possible.

Alternatively, if you contact the member directly by phone they will be able to advise what colours are currently available.

A full list of the Paint Reuse Networks Members is coming soon.

What is the criteria for joining?

In order to be considered for membership an organisation must first develop a plan and timeline for putting in place their paint reuse initiative.

This must include evidence of feasibility of access to:

  • A dedicated set team.

  • A collection site.

  • A space to mix and house the recovered paint. A willingness to connect with the network.

Do you charge for paint?

The Paint Reuse Network sells a service. The cost is a service charge used to cover materials and time spent arranging the paint for distribution.

The paint is made available to the customer at an inexpensive price. This cost per litre contributes to the cost of providing paint for reuse, which reduces the environmental impact of paint disposal in Ireland. It also allows the members to continue to provide ongoing training opportunities to people distanced from the workplace.

Who is the Paint Reuse Network membership open to?

Full membership to the Paint Reuse Network is open to any community group or organizations operating a paint reuse initiative within Ireland who are committed to the values and vision of the network. Membership is approved by the network coordination group upon application.

Is there a charge to join?

There is currently not a charge to join the network at this point in time.

While this may change in the future, it is not currently envisaged that there will be a charge for membership.
